We are a local sorority at the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB). By "local", we mean that we are not tied to any National Sorority and to the best of our knowledge, there are no Kappa Lambda Chi sororities on other campuses.
The sorority was founded on January 21, 2004 by three women (Rebeca Guerrero, Daisy Garcia, Erika Pardo) and quickly grew to having 10 members within the semester (Silvia Rodriguez, Daniela Salcedo, Karina Balboa, Jeanna Miranda, Aracely Pardo, and Monica Castaneda).
All our sisters are from different career backgrounds, but that does not stop us in becoming one. As we get to know each other more and more, our values of leadership, friendship and unity grow with our daily experiences. Kappa Lambda Chi purpose is to make our sisters to become leaders and to make a difference in our campus as well as our community.
On January 10,2004, we decided on our flower( Calla Lillie), bird( Phoenix Bird), colors( Navy Blue and Pink), ring (Pink Ice Ring) and most important of all, was how to start our constitution. All our sisters were tired from all the brainstorming that we had to do, but at the end, everything was done and Kappa Lambda Chi was born. After all the papers that had to be done, Kappa Lambda Chi needed to be recognized as another organization in campus and out in the community. Kappa Lambda Chi participated in various activities like the Don’t Mess with Texas Campus Clean-up, Support the Rec-Center, etc…and little by little we became known as the "KAX." All our sisters are proud to be called "KAX "because from all the hard work that we all did, it is worth it at the end when a student sees you passed and say, “Hey, there goes a KAX girl!” Being recognized as a sorority, it means that we are actually doing our job in serving our community and our university in which other people noticed.
Kappa Lambda Chi is going to stay in UTB as long as our future generations of Kappa Sisters believe in SISTERHOOD. Being a woman is difficult to overcome some obstacles in life and being part of Kappa Lambda Chi, together we will prove to society that today’s women can succeed.
